It seems like something a lot of users could take advantage of, and not a lot of effort to implement. VLC is free and open source, and multi platform, so you can run it on pretty much any PC OS. Even better, no transcoding is needed I don’t think, so you get full quality playback with all of the VLC features for free. It’s true that the guide data is not there, but with the playlist view you can see all channels, and search by name. I don’t know if VLC will pull a m3u file via HTTP, but if so you could just give the URL to the m3u on the server and not even need to mess directly with the file. m3u appears that you can download and load into VLC, or any other player that could use it. It could be added to the experimental section, for example. It seems to me that providing regularly updated m3us of all channels via the server somehow would be a nice option. Additionally, we know a lot of users wish for a PC client, for a variety of reasons. It will start playing the first channel in the list immediately, but then you can open the playlist view and selectively choose which channel you want.ĭoing this manually works great, but running curl can prove to be a challenge for less savvy users. Replace the Xs with your server's IP address.
